Wednesday March 23, 2011 The other day I RT’d (twitter) a YouTube link about another video production company in my town. It was a great video and, before tweeting, I paused to contemplate if people would think I was, “shooting myself in the foot.” Like my company, Resort TV makes excellent videos – and therein lays our only similarity. They have their specialty and I have my own; making educational documentaries and developing educational content. In the North Okanagan (NOK) if you want your non-TV ads in front of tourists and the public, I don’t think you can do better than Resort TV. Also in the NOK cinematographer Jim Elderton (Sveva Imprisoned) makes excellent productions and has a real feel for emotional subjects and stories. Guaranteed you’ll get a lump in your throat or teary-eyed during one of Jim’s productions; he has the story telling ‘knack.’ I recently worked with Randy (Bonesy) Jones who is ‘thee’ videographer for music fairs & events. Randy and I have worked on 4 projects together over the last few years. Bonesy also has a great doc. about one of the longest living and liveliest guys in the NOK. When I needed some help on a recent project, I turned to event videographer John Willis. John has the photographer’s eye, the producer’s mind and a heart of gold. There are some younger folks I admire too. I like Jordan Hooper’s work so much I recently recommended him for a project I’ll be DoP on. Jordan is a young man who has skill, interest and a burgeoning ability I think more people will soon recognize. Younger still, check out this video by a local 14 year old who has a great grip on storytelling and production – very rare to have both at that age. When we think of local 'talent' we often forget about the talent behind the lens so 'cheers' to our local talent who are bringing great videos to screens of all sizes! |
